As the saying goes…………..”You have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find the Prince/Princess”……..well, it holds true also for reading, “You have to read a lot of books to find the ones that make life worth reading!”
Scandinavian writers have always appealed to me…………through DNA testing I have found out that I’m %30 Scandinavian (mostly Norwegian)! That explains a lot I guess about my reading interest………..
2 NEW (to me) Scandinavian Authors have made it to my reading list, Hakan Nesser’s Mind’s Eye and Ragnar Johanson’s first 2 books of the Dark Iceland Series…………Snow Blind and Black Out (Night Blind) note: books from other countries sometimes change titles before that are printed for English-speaking readers……….you have to be careful to read the review to be sure you’re not buying the same book by another title! JUST SO YOU KNOW!
MIND’S EYE……………HAKAN NESSER..…………….an Inspector VAn Veeteren Mystery (1st book in that series). It is extremely well written, but I didn’t like the main characters……..so although I enjoyed the book………..really a great page turner, I don’t plan on reading any more of the series!
SNOW BLIND…and…BLACK OUT……….RAGNAR JONASSON…………. The first 2 books in the Dark Iceland Series…….When I got BLACK OUT, the title surprised me because in SNOW BLIND the cover story said that book 2 would be NIGHT BLIND………so I went back to book one and realized that I had read it earlier and really like it. Book 2 starts 1 1/2 years after book 1. And I can’t wait for book 3, RUPTURE coming out in 2017!
The difference between MIND’S EYE and Ragnar’s series is the cast of characters!!! By the time you get half way into book 1 you are drawn up into the storyline and you are beginning to really care about what happens to the characters! There is a wonderful love story that is part of the mystery and a couple of murders and much details about the landscapes in Iceland. Iceland in the summertime is a place I want to go! I feel like I already know what to expect!
