WOW! “The Purge” blog entry” got a LOT OF REACTION!!! Some quite unexpected!
The most unexpected came from close friends that asked, “Why and how on earth do you watch that “kind of stuff”? ….all that violence, killing and maiming! That’s not like you! And the truth is that is not “like me”.
These comments led to some discussion with another friend who really has my best interests at heart and honestly wanted to explore how and why I want to watch shows such as The Purge.
Interestingly enough I also enjoy Hallmark Movies, the documentary about Mr. Roberts and The Crown of Thrones. So, why and how do I watch all types of genres and be the same person?
I believe that my interest in many kinds of entertainment is a result of the desire to learn about all types of life on this earth. There is no need to live every type of experience if I can read about it or see a movie or a documentary.
I am able to watch the “bad stuff” without getting depressed or alarmed or mad because I view it in a “detached state of mind”. I am not experiencing any of it personally but I’m learning about it and storing it all in my mind. This allows me to have empathy for many situations that I have not personally taken part in. Doctors and nurses, funeral directors and morticians, judges and policemen and firefighter are able to do their jobs because they are able to detach themselves from the event and do their work at the optimum of their game.
Any of you out there that have or had a “REALLY strong reaction to the blog”, feel free to leave a comment or send an email. ralawson@knology.net

Thanks for the input! Appreciate your comment. It let’s me know people are thinking! Very comforting! 🙂
