If you enjoyed the new Christmas movies last year, get ready for another 5 starting this Saturday night for 5 nights leading into the Valentines’ Day weekend!

Do like I do, record them and play them later when you have the time to really enjoy them…………..and yes, even the commercials are good too!

If you miss any of the really good movies, like Surprised by Love and Love by the Book that came out at Christmas, just visit your local Hallmark Store and you’ll find the DVD’s sitting there waiting for you.

ARNALDUR INDRIDASON, ANOTHER GREAT AUTHOR FROM ICELAND

I just finished book 9 in the Detective Erlendur series,  STRANGE SHORES. This is the last book in this series and it all started with JAR CITY. I highly recommend starting with Jar City and reading them in natural order.

Indridason is an Icelandic author of great repute and has sold over 7 million copies of his books worldwide. He worked many years as a journalist and critic before writing mystery novels.

His descriptions of Iceland and the social and economic conditions that have and still exist give the reader an insight into ICELAND. Detective Erlendur has memories that haunt him from his childhood (don’t we all?) and these are carried through the novel series to show how we all develop and react to life accordingly to our earlier beginnings.

There is always a twist at the ending that you just couldn’t quite see coming………yep, several of one of those “Aha!” moments.

If you enjoy really settling down with a great book, just buy Jar City and get on down!

John Grisham, Gray Mountain, book review

John Grisham scores again with a good book about a certain topic concerning law. This time it is the cold mines of Appalachia. You’ll learn a lot about that region of our country and the hard times people in those states have endured over the years. Great love triangle and strong character development drive the book to an ending that begs for a sequel! Please!

Another Grisham book, The Broker came out many years ago and was one of the reasons I took a trip to Italy, the Tuscany valley area! The story line is full of the latest technological items of the day and the descriptions of the country side AND the food made me call my travel agent and get on the next flight! Be prepared to go Italy if you decide to read it!

Another great book about Italy and Tuscany is  Under the Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes. It is a great book to give to people who have got to make great changes in their lives. Perfect as gifts to people who don’t know what to do or how to handle grief! It will inspire them to pick themselves up and get moving on toward the Tuscan sun!

Great authors like Grisham always deliver a book that deserves to be bought in the hard book section of the book store! So go on out to Barnes and Noble and smell the coffee and the books and get a copy and start reading it in the Starbucks section of the store while enjoying the coffee! Guaranteed to make you feel better!!!!

JENNIFER LAWRENCE, BEFORE “KATNESS” AND THE HUNGER GAMES

I just read that Jennifer Lawrence made more money last year than any other actor! WOW! She must really be good! She’s been in the X-men movies, Silver Linings Playlist, The Hunger Games Films, but what was some of her earlier works?

If you Google her name you’ll get references to U-tube, and celebrities shows, etc.

But if you really want to know why “they” picked Jennifer Lawrence to play Katness, check out Winter’s Bone and The House at the End of the Street! In these earlier roles you can see how the “girl underneath the character that she is playing” is the making of a great actress. The little pieces of emotion, the movement when walking, the talent of going from one extreme emotion to another instantaneously bubbles to the surface and you realize that no other actress could play those parts!

The young lady has a VERY bright future!  You go girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SCANDINAVIAN AUTHORS, GREAT MYSTERY WRITERS LIKE STIEG LARsSON AND JO NESBO

You have probably heard of Stieg Larson (The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo Millennium Trilogy2015-01-04 152015YARDPICTURES 004

  and Jo Nesbo ( The Harry Hole Series ) but how about some of the others? Well some of the best mystery writers of today are from the Scandinavian countries:

Jussi Adler-Olsen, THE MARCO EFFECT

This book is the 5th in a series called Dept. Q.  I’ve read the other 4 and can highly recommend all of them. Why?

If you enjoy watching the development of characters over several books this series is a winner! And just when you think the story lines and characters are all studied out, new ones appear and you know you’ll find more details in later books.

I love PAPER BOOKS (enjoy e-books too, BUT) I’ve bought all of these books in hard back because I don’t want to wait to get into the latest book as soon as it is released.

I’ve read many of the mystery writers from the USA and there are a lot of them to choose from. When Stieg Larsson came out with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series of course the whole world read them and then watched the movies. He actually died before the books were published and therefore it was thought that there would be no more about “that girl”, but just wait, Stieg’s girl friend helped him with the books and knows what the Book 4 should be……..SOooooooooo maybe one day we’ll get that book.

In the meantime, give this author a try! All of his books are “page turners”!!!! You really care about what will happen in the ending and can hardly wait to get there and then you’re biting at the bit to get your hands on the next one!

Yep, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

STILL LIFE, BOOK AND MOVIE REVIEW

STILL LIFE, the book started a new series by a Canadian author, Louise Penny many years ago. STILL LIFE, A THREE PINES MYSTERY movie came out this year after 9 more books had followed Chief Inspector Armand Garmache’s investigations around Three Pines which is near Montreal, Canada. This year another book was released to the thousands of waiting fans of the Three Pines mysteries!

What makes this book and movie so special is Louise Penny! She develops characters that are so real and believable in a town that doesn’t exist, but it does in your heart!  You really should start with book 1, Still Life and read them in secession, because each book “stars” someone in the Three Pines population that is involved in the mystery. Each time you finish a book you can’t wait to get the next one because some story threads carry through several books before ending.

The great joy of seeing the movie (DVD, Acorn, available Amazon.com) is that after reading about the book about the town and characters, you get to see what the “real town and people look like”!!! Spoiler alert…………..not all characters look like I thought they would/should! Perhaps you’ll have better luck!

All in all, I can’t think of a better way to spend your money and time!  Now get to it!

THE WALKER, MOVIE REVIEW, WOODY HARRELSON

The by-line for this movie is “Everyone loves a good scandal……….and particularly one located in Washington, DC………….INDEED!

But the real great story of this movie is Woody Harrelson! It’s loaded with other great actors: Lily Tomlin, Lauren Bacall, Kristin Scott Thomas, Ned Beatty….and from the director of American Gigolo…..the acting of all of them is superb, but Woody Harrelson shows in this performance why he was chosen to act in True Detective for HBO!  You’ve never seen him in a role like this! And I believe it was the last movie Lauren Bacall was in!

It is really worth your time!

Interstellar and Gravity have one very important thing in common!  GRAVITY! In doubt? See the movies!

How do we ever really know WHO OUR MAKER is anyway?!!! Look into your heart and soul!!!!! That’s where the answer is! AND you already know it!  Grace is the gift of knowing what is and what isn’t.

Hallmark Cards, Books, Movies (A Review)

In Proof of Heaven and A Map of Heaven by Eben Alexander, books by him depict Heaven as a place where you are used to seeing the world in black and white and all of a sudden when you see (or get there) everything is in HD and color!

After watching yet another Hallmark movie today……….I’ve decided that Heaven must also be like stepping into a Hallmark movie because the good people always win and the bad guys always lose! Angels help everybody out and everybody winds up extremely happy!

The Hallmark channel produces 12 heart warming movies every Christmas and in January this year on each Saturday evening a new movie will premiere!  They have had several series over the last few years like Cedar Cove…..And you can bet ALL of them will be family friendly!!

I ALWAYS feel uplifted and better after watching anything the Hallmark Channel puts on the air ways. They produce wonderful cards for all occasions and their stores are full of great gifts of many different kinds…………including LIFE IS GOOD merchandise (10% goes to a great charity)!!!!!

I highly suspect the Angels are working with them in secret to help us all out on this side of Heaven!!!!
